ABOUT THE ROLE:

 

We’re looking for a strategic and collaborative Director, Health Economics & Reimbursement (HE&R) to join our commercial team at Endologix. In this role, you’ll partner with Sales, Enterprise Accounts, Marketing, Medical and Clinical Affairs, R&D, and Legal/Compliance to craft and execute impactful health economics and reimbursement strategies across all Endologix platforms. With deep expertise in health economics and a strong track record of driving medical device adoption, you’ll serve as a key external voice, representing the company to hospitals, physicians, payers, industry groups, and policy organizations.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Partner with and support sales organization, leading the health economics and reimbursement discussion with key hospital customers and physician champions.
  • Provide education and training to hospital staff, healthcare providers, office staff, and the Endologix sales organization on reimbursement processes, coding requirements, and billing procedures.
  • Act as principal HE&R contact and subject matter expert for hospital and physician customers in assigned region/customer segment.
  • Lead and facilitate Endologix portion of the hospital value analysis process, providing all necessary HE&R materials, developing hospital-specific financial and economic data and resources, and lead the value analysis discussion with key hospital stakeholders at all levels.
  • Educate and support hospitals’ and physicians’ appropriate claims submission both directly and with delegation to the Reimbursement Support Center (RSC).
  • Assist healthcare providers in obtaining appropriate payment by ensuring accurate documentation and coding practices. Identify coding and charging issues and remediate with additional education, support, and RSC involvement.
  • Build rapport with key hospital stakeholders to enhance reimbursement issue identification and problem solve with hospital stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Build rapport with regional DETOUR physician champions and educate for peer-to-peer discussions with payer Medical Directors in support of DETOUR coverage expansion.
  • Partner with Sales, Enterprise Accounts, Marketing, Contracting, and other Endologix functions as necessary to facilitate customer adoption of DETOUR.
  • Work in partnership with sales and sales leadership to plan and prioritize on-site customer visits to deliver value-selling messages.
  • Monitor local changes in the hospital customer and payer landscape, identify/monitor trends, and communicate within HE&R and across the organization as necessary.
  • Assist VP HE&R with maintaining and updating internal and external reimbursement materials, and creation of new materials as necessary.
  • Support continuous improvement in HE&R messaging and education, incorporating feedback from customers and colleagues.
  • Ensure health economic and value selling methodologies and messages are consistent and compliant with legal and regulatory guidance.
  • Facilitate with RSC appeal and denial management in cases where insurance claims are denied, or coverage is inadequate and help healthcare providers navigate the appeals process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • An advanced degree preferred, such as an MBA, MPH or MHA, including curriculum in health policy, health economics, healthcare administration, health services research or similar.

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience guiding HE&R strategies for a medical device manufacturer.
  • Experience influencing coding, coverage, and payment for medical devices in Medicare, Medicaid, and private health plans.
  • Ability to use financial calculators, Excel and PowerPoint to demonstrate how Endologix products impact facility economics or healthcare system economically and financially.
  • Ability to present complex health economic information to both large and small influential groups in a way that is credible, easy to understand and engages the audience.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Experience educating clinicians and facilities on appropriate documentation and billing for medical device technologies.
  • Strong understanding of reimbursement programs such as NTAP/transitional pass-though and documentation requirements for products reported under Category III CPT codes.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to develop relationships at all levels in an organization which impact organizational business goals.
  • Record of success with facilitating adoption of emerging technology through deployment of comprehensive health economic, reimbursement and market access strategies.
  • Expertise in the field of health economics and healthcare delivery systems, including hospitals, integrated delivery networks, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) and office-based practices.

The compensation package includes:

  • Base salary of $197,000/yr-$236,000/yr DOE
  • Discretionary bonus
