    Directs and coordinates all production activities through subordinate manager and/or supervisors to attain production goals consistent with high quality, reliability, cost and service/delivery requirements. Interacts with Supply Chain to develop production schedules and work order releases. Plans capacity (equipment and personnel) to ensure production needs are met. Oversees the execution of the manufacturing schedule while ensuring quality, compliance, adherence to production standards and safety/environmental requirements are met. Ensures resources are trained and capable. Drives improvements programs and partners closely with Manufacturing Engineering. Directly or indirectly prioritizes work for engineers assigned to production support. Works closely with R&D teams and other cross functional groups to ensure timely introduction of new products and processes.


    • In accordance with Endologix's policies and applicable laws and regulations: Select, reward, discipline, train and develop employees.

    • Plan and direct performance of staff members as assigned: Motivate employees, assist in goal setting, provide development opportunities and performance feedback, address complaints and resolve problems

    • Establishes operational goals and objectives to meet corporate goals and strategies. Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications and corporate goals and objectives.

    • Provides direction and guidance to all production support groups relative to business requirements for production areas.

    • Reviews production demands or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.

    • Establishes direction and strategies for product flow throughout the production area. Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.

    • Reviews and approves Document and Engineering Change Requests affecting manufacturing.

    • Reviews production and operating results/reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays. Compiles, stores, and retrieves production and quality data. Reviews and analyzes data and makes recommendations and implements changes based on data.

    • Implements systems and procedural goals to ensure that machines and equipment meet operational performance and utilization requirements. Reviews equipment and machine requirements based on production schedules. Determines and oversees implementation of capital requirements for improvements. Partners with Manufacturing Engineering and Facilities departments on these activities.

    • Develops and monitors departmental budgets, both operating and capital.

    • Ensure that accurate and complete records of department activities are kept and that they meet regulatory requirements

    • Identifies hazards and mitigates risks associated with identified hazards in Design and Process FMEA.

    • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and ensures compliance with standards.

    • Establish direction and strategies relative to product and process quality plans. Establish direction and strategies for introduction of new process/products into production. Provides leadership to Design Transfer activities for new products.

    • Represents the interests of the production environment within management and cross functional meetings.

    • Monitors inventory goals (WIP, Kanbans, etc.) to meet schedule requirements while minimizing investment and obsolescence exposure. Drives reductions in cycle times. Oversees execution of periodic WIP and cycle counts ensuring proper reconciliation with Finance.

    • Oversees overall safety, environmental and operational activities within area of responsibilities.

    • Ensures that scheduled delivery dates are met with minimum work-in-process time consistent with proper utilization of facilities. Keeps senior management informed on the status of production schedules. Directs, and clears away obstacles that create delay in production.

    • Activates, supports and institutionalizes major new programs of continuous improvements into production systems (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, 6S, Six Sigma, MRP/ERP, TQM, Self-Directed Teams, etc.).

    • Coordinates the activities of various supervisors of assembly to insure maximum effectiveness is obtained for the production of quality product within anticipated costs and planned schedules.

    • Participates and compiles metrics/statistics in the preparation and control of department operating budgets.

    • Responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as well as company policies and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition.

    • Follows all standard operating procedures. Make recommendations for additions and/or improvements to policies and procedures. Updates as appropriate.

    • Other duties may be assigned


    • Works on abstract problems across functional areas of the business with collaboration skills.
    • Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division or company operations.  
    • Interacts internally and externally with executive-level management requiring negotiation of difficult matters to influence policy making bodies both internally and externally.

    • Ability to use PC's and sophisticated software inclusive of MRP/ERP systems.
    • Ability to audit production areas, identify non-compliance to requirements and develop and oversee action plans for corrective action.
    • In-depth knowledge of such matters such as labor relations, manufacturing methods, production planning and assembly.
    • In-depth understanding of accounting (standard cost), QSR/ISO requirements, trend analysis and failure rate analysis.
    • In-depth understanding of production and quality control techniques including statistical process control.
    • Able to read blueprints, schematics and drawings.
    • Must understand and have ability to analyze requirements and opportunities for processes and product lines.


    • Requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent applicable working experience. Master’s degree preferred.


    • Minimum of 12 years related experience or 10 years PhD or MD. Medical device manufacturing experience preferred. .

    • Experience and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing (and related) methodologies required.

    • Experience in manufacturing financial acumen with accounting, standard costs and variances

    Equipment Use:   Copy machines, fax machines, calculators and personal computers and computer terminals.

    Computer Skills: Software proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
