Manages/oversees directly and/or indirectly the global logistics activities for the company including transportation, warehousing, distribution and trade compliance.  Partners closely with both internal functions and third party service providers to drive quality and efficiency while optimizing the distribution network. Develops, implements and maintains policies, procedures, schedules and control systems. Negotiates and maintains third party service provider contracts and relationship to support the logistics activities.  Actively identifies and executes upon improvement opportunities in the areas of quality, compliance, cost, service, supply security and asset utilization (inventory).

Responsibilities

  • Oversees logistics network design and execution to ensure that:
  • Service needs for direct and distributor  customers’ needs are met.  Develops, maintains and publishes KPI metrics.
  • Control/ traceability are maintained throughout the distribution network. Minimizes write downs (expiration, obsolescence & shrinkage).
  • Logistics support is provided for internal and external distribution centers and customer services operations.
  • High quality, high value and reliable      suppliers/service providers are selected and maintained to support logistics      activities.  Performance is      regularly reviewed to identify preferred providers, stimulate/drive improvement      and to identify/execute on necessary changes of suppliers or service      providers. This includes measuring and driving improvements regarding      field logistics/inventory practices, tools and behaviors 
  • Technology (ERP, CRM, Barcode, RFID, Paperless      transactions, etc.) is leveraged to drive efficiency.
  • Negotiates and maintains third party service provider contracts and relationship to support the logistics activities.
  • Leads implementation of logistics functions to support global expansion of the company’s business.  Partners closely internally and externally to achieve on time, on budget, high quality and sustainable implementations.
  • Partner effectively internally across functions/geographies and externally with suppliers and service providers.
  • Creates/manages budgets for areas of responsibility.  Partners closely with Finance. 
  • Company procedures are adhered to and legal/regulatory requirements (Quality Systems, Regulatory, Customs/Trade, SOX) are met.  Promptly responds to necessary corrective actions (CAPA) and observations from internal or external audits.  Creates, updates and drives compliance to internal procedures and work instructions related to areas of responsibility.  Drives same with third party providers.
  • Directly and/or indirectly supervises subordinates.  Guides/instructs peers and business leaders regarding logistics.

 

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in one of the following areas:  Business, Finance, Economics, Management Science, Operations Management, Mathematics, Supply Chain or Engineering.  Master’s degree is desirable.  APICS training / certification is preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of 5-10 years related experience, medical device experience preferred.
  • Requires experience selecting and managing 3rd party providers (RFP processes, contract negotiation, relationship/performance management).
  • Requires 2+ years previous leadership level / supervisory experience
  • Strength and experience negotiating, developing, executing and managing to supply/service agreements is required.
  • Understanding of Lean / Six Sigma methodologies required.  Green or Black Belt certification preferred.                                                                                                                                    
  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.   Has the ability to use moderate to advanced quantitative modeling techniques when analyzing data and the ability make rational and logical decisions base the that analysis.  Manages projects and activities in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors and actions must reflect meeting both acute and long term needs.
  • Strong knowledge/skills regarding spreadsheets is required.  Strong knowledge of ERP systems required (experience with QAD preferred). 
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings is preferred. 
  • Experience executing /approving documentation changes in a Change Control environment preferred.
  • Strong communication (internal & external), project management, decision making and influencing skills required.   Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate issues and concerns with management and third party providers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and to move within and between the buildings.  A computer terminal is used to access, input, and retrieve data. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
